The History of Our Lady of the Rosary RC Primary School
For more than seventy years, Our Lady of the Rosary RC Primary School has been a place of faith, learning and community in the heart of Lawrence Weston, Bristol. Since opening in 1955, the school has played a central role in the lives of local families, educating generations of children and helping to shape the character of the community it serves.
The Post-War Years
The story of Our Lady of the Rosary School began during a period of major change in Bristol. Following the Second World War, large-scale housing developments were created across the city to address overcrowding and provide new homes for growing families. Lawrence Weston emerged as one of Bristol's new post-war housing estates, bringing with it a need for schools, churches and community facilities.
Recognising the needs of the growing Catholic population in north-west Bristol, the Diocese of Clifton established Our Lady of the Rosary Parish and developed plans for a Catholic primary school that would serve local children while strengthening the faith community. In 1955, Our Lady of the Rosary School was built on Tide Grove, adjacent to the parish church, creating a partnership between school and parish that continues to this day.
A School at the Heart of the Parish
From its earliest days, the school was more than simply a place of education. It was founded as a Catholic community where faith and learning would develop together. Being situated next to Our Lady of the Rosary Church enabled strong links between parish and school life. Children regularly attended Mass, celebrated important feast days and sacramental occasions, and learned the values of service, prayer and compassion that remain central to the school's mission. The school continues to operate as a Catholic Voluntary Aided School under the trusteeship of the Diocese of Clifton.

Our Lady of the Rosary Today
Today, Our Lady of the Rosary RC Primary School remains a thriving Catholic school serving children aged four to eleven. With a capacity of approximately 210 pupils, it continues to welcome families from Lawrence Weston and the surrounding areas while maintaining its close partnership with the parish and Diocese of Clifton.
The school's vision,"Growing Together in Faith and Understanding," reflects both its heritage and its aspirations for the future. Building on more than seven decades of service, the school continues to combine academic excellence with Gospel values, ensuring that pupils develop the knowledge, confidence and compassion needed to make a positive contribution to the world around them.
