Maths
At Our Lady of the Rosary Primary School, we aim to develop confident, resilient and enthusiastic mathematicians. We believe that all children can succeed in mathematics and that a deep understanding of mathematical concepts is the foundation for future learning.
We encourage pupils to use a range of mathematical equipment and practical resources to support their understanding of new concepts. By exploring mathematics in a hands-on and visual way, children are able to build secure knowledge and make meaningful connections between ideas.
Our teaching focuses on developing children's ability to:
- Become fluent in key mathematical skills and procedures.
- Reason mathematically and explain their thinking.
- Apply their knowledge to solve a range of problems.
- Develop confidence and resilience when tackling challenges.
We use the White Rose Maths scheme as a key resource to support teaching and learning. However, we have adapted and enriched the programme to meet the needs of our pupils, ensuring that all children are appropriately supported and challenged to achieve their full potential.
Enrichment and Competitions
We provide opportunities for children to develop their mathematical skills beyond the classroom through participation in national competitions and challenges, including:
- Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS) Challenges
- Sumdog Maths Competitions
These activities encourage children to practise core skills, develop confidence and foster a positive attitude towards mathematics. We are proud of our strong record of achievement in these competitions and of the enthusiasm our pupils show when representing the school.
Through engaging lessons, practical experiences and enrichment opportunities, we aim to nurture a lifelong appreciation of mathematics and equip children with the skills they need for success in school and beyond.
